Professor Louie & The Crowmatix
with The Rock Of Ages
Horns from Kingston NY led by Dan Shaut
will host a concert honoring the late great Rick Danko
to celebrate his music and birthday.
Rick Danko was an integral part of the popular music landscape. As lead singer, bassist and acoustic guitar player for The Band, and as a solo artist, Rick’s contributions have been substantial. From Blayney, Ontario, a farming community outside of the town of Simcoe, Canada, Rick started playing and singing as early as the first grade, got into music full time in his mid-teens and made the jump to the big time joining Ronnie Hawkins at age 17. By 1965, Rick and his cohorts (known as The Hawks) were backing Bob Dylan. They began recording and performing their songs as The Band … and the rest is history.
Rick and Louie played the Towne Crier many times. They traveled the world playing concerts and recording, and became best of friends. Noting Louie’s musical talents, Rick gave him the moniker “Professor Louie.”
The lineup for this tribute concert is: Professor Louie, vocals, keyboards, accordion; Miss Marie, vocals, percussion, keyboards; Gary Burke, drums; Frank Campbell, bass, backing vocals; John Platania, guitar, vocals. Rock Of Ages Horns led by Dan Shaut. Special guests include Larry Packer (The Last Waltz), Gary Solomon (The The Band Band) and Michael Falzarano (guitar, vocals), known for his 20 years with Jefferson Airplane spin-off Hot Tuna and the past 11 years with The New Riders of the Purple Sage. Michael, now a member of The Airplane & Friends, has spent time touring and playing shows with The Band members Garth Hudson, Levon Helm & Rick Danko.
