Join the Towne Crier Cafe as we bring in the holiday season with A Celtic Thanksgiving, a special evening featuring Joanie Madden and Mary Coogan of Cherish the Ladies, along with Bruce Foley on vocals, All-Ireland fiddle champ Dylan Foley, multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Donohue and guests.

Joanie Madden is internationally recognized as one of the greatest musicians and most respected personalities in the history of Irish music in America. She has dedicated her life to promoting Irish music, song and dance around the world, and is as equally successful as a musician and composer in her solo career while serving as founder and leader of the acclaimed traditional Irish music and dance ensemble, Cherish The Ladies. Born in New York of Irish parents and raised in a musical household, Joanie is the top selling whistle player in history, having sold more than 500,000 solo albums and performed on more than 180 recordings. In 2016, Irish America Magazine named Joanie as one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Irish Women in the world.

Mary Coogan was born in New York and raised in a musical household. She is a founding member of Cherish the Ladies. Her mother came from Castlerea in County Roscommon and her father Jim was a great accordion player whose parents emigrated from County Waterford. Her father passed down his love of Irish music to Mary and she became a self-taught guitar, mandolin and bouzouki player.  In addition to her outstanding musical talents, Mary also holds her masters degree in education and was named in Who's Who among American Teachers. Acoustic Guitar Magazine named Mary one of the top four Celtic guitarists in Celtic music.

Bruce Foley is a renowned singer/guitarist who has toured and played with numerous Irish groups since 1974. He has performed in concert with Scottish folk singer Andy M Stewart, Irish songman Tommy Sands, fiddler James Kelly and supergroup Cherish the Ladies. Bruce played the uilleann pipes at New York’s Madison Square Gardens for Pete Seeger's 90th birthday celebration. He performs regularly in the Pittsburgh area with two of the areas favorite Irish bands, Guaranteed Irish and Hooley. He also often performs with musicians in the New York area including his wife Mary Coogan, John Nolan and Brian Conway. He has a beautiful ballad voice and goes down a storm whenever he sings!

Gabriel Donohue was born in Athenry, a walled medieval town in County Galway that was founded in the 12th century. Hailing from this well-known village, his music is filled with a strong sense of history and his love of storytelling is evident through his song, which belongs to another time and place. Gabriel grew up in an extremely musical household and by age 14 he was a member of the Leitrim Ramblers Ceili Band traveling all around the Connemara Gaeltacht and throughout the west of Ireland. Gabriel is an extremely gifted guitarist, pianist, bouzouki player, singer and songwriter. For five years he toured around the world with the Chieftains as their accompanist, worked and performed with Michael Flatley and toured with Cherish the Ladies, Eileen Ivers and Joanie Madden.

Dylan Foley hails from Upstate New York and is a four-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion. Dylan was a student of the great Rose Flanagan and counts Joanie Madden, Brian Conway, Mike McHale, and Monsignor Charlie Coen among his primary influences. He is a vibrant stylist whose playing has been called “impeccable and spirited.” Dylan has performed at Lincoln Center, Joanie Madden’s Folk N’ Irish Cruise, Austin Celtic Festival, at Gracie Mansion for NYC Mayor Bloomberg, on Jay Ungar’s Dancing On the Air show on WAMC, also Foley has been featured on Irish Television channels RTE and TG4’s fleadh program. At age 12, Dylan made an appearance on the HBO special “The Music In Me.” He has taught and performed at the Catskills Irish Arts Week, CCE MAD week and Elkins Irish Week. Now, at the age of 23, Foley teaches privately, plays concerts and sessions around the greater NY area and abroad and is in great demand.
