Christine Lavin’s 23rd solo CD, “Spaghettification,” is being released on Tuesday, Aug. 29, and celebrated on Friday, Aug. 25, at the Towne Crier. Copies of the CDs will be available to purchase at the show.

She is sharing the stage with Vance Gilbert, who the Fort Worth Star Telegram writes, “Possesses the voice of an angel, the wit of devil, and the guitar-playing of a god.”

The Orlando Sentinel calls Christine Lavin, “A folkZinger!” and Cosmopolitan Magazine calls her “An enchanting stage performer.” Christine is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and recording artist who has been based in New York City since 1976.

On Christine’s new album she is joined by some of New York’s top instrumentalists (Robbie Kondor on accordion, Aaron Weinstein on violin, Steve Doyle on bass, Daniel Glass on drums) and two stellar scientists, Alan Stern, head of NASA’s Pluto “Fly-By” project, and the legendary Neil deGrasse Tyson, who introduces Christine on the album to sing her song, “Planet X,” at one of Neil’s “Astronomy & Comedians” shows. The album contains brand new songs about sesquipedalians (someone who uses big words unnecessarily), planning your own funeral, peanut butter soup, the Empire State Building, sinkholes and the notorious evening she had a horrendous dinner with one of our current president’s infamous mentors.

Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer-songwriter scene in the early '90s when buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking 'em dead at open mics. Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Vance started out hoping to be a jazz singer, and then discovered his affinity for the storytelling sensibilities of acoustic folk music. Once word got out about Vance's stage-owning singing and playing, Shawn Colvin invited him to be special guest on her Fat City Tour. Noted not only for being the ever consummate performer, Vance has recorded 12 albums, including four for Philo/Rounder Records and a duo album with friend Ellis Paul. He has been the opener of choice for artists as varied as Aretha Franklin, Arlo Guthrie, Anita Baker, George Carlin, Paul Reiser and The Subdudes.
